Prestonwood Mens Golf Association: Swinging for a Cause

Prestonwood MGA member and North Texas
Board of Trustees member Steve Gunner
holds a check from the charity tournament.

The Prestonwood Mens Golf Association (MGA) at the Prestonwood Country Club in Dallas, TX recently made a generous contribution to the Links Fore Leukemia Golf Tournament presented by Venari Resources to benefit the North Texas Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  The Prestonwood MGA donates the proceeds of its last tournament of the year to a local charity and the group chose LLS as one of its beneficiaries this year.  Thank you to the more than 600 members of this organization for choosing LLS and donating $1,200 to help further its vision of creating a world without blood cancers.

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is personal for a number of members of the Prestonwood MGA.  Two members of the group are currently in remission from a blood cancer and many played in honor of Nick Gunner, who lost his battle with acute myeloid leukemia in April 2013.

Registration for the 2015 Links Fore Leukemia Golf Tournament at Stonebriar Country Club on Monday, June 29th will be opening shortly.  Learn more about the tournament and how to participate at www.linksforeleukemiadallas.org or by contacting Kate Campbell at Kate.Campbell@lls.org or (972) 996-5921.

North Texas Giving Day: A Breakdown

The North Texas Chapter is humbled and thankful for the incredibly generous donations The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) received during the 2014 North Texas Giving Day by the Communities Foundation of Texas.

You and 186 other people helped us raise $67,655 in 18 hours.  Incredible!  Even more amazing are the stories about the people who used this opportunity to support LLS in an impactful way.  Below are a couple of the stories from people who felt compelled to give.

A grandmother in honor of her grandson who is currently battling a rare form of leukemia
A mother in honor of her son who is now 12 years cancer free
A woman whose step-father is currently battling CML
A woman whose mother passed away from lymphoma.
A Team In Training participant honoring the work and legacy of Coach Joe
An esteemed blood cancer doctor and researcher who is currently funded by LLS
North Texas Board of Trustee members who are dedicated to the mission
A woman in honor of her husband who passed away from a blood cancer
A family that honors two friends who battled blood cancers and are now survivors
Coworkers supporting their coworkers participating in Light The Night and Team In Training
A survivor who wants to keep another person from receiving the news, "you have cancer."

Each person has a different story but their vision is the same: A World Without Blood Cancers.

From the bottom of our hearts,

HomeCity Real Estate Supporting the North Texas Chapter

HomeCity Real Estate, a 17 agent office in Dallas, is supporting the North Texas Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in a unique way.  The Austin-based agency offers its agents the opportunity to make a $50 donation to LLS automatically out of every house closing.

LLS' Libby Kaczmarek with Home City's Michelle Yarnall
and Mike Pritchard
Dallas agent Michelle Yarnall donated $100 to LLS from two of her recent closings.  She selected LLS as her charity of choice because her father-in-law passed away from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) several years ago.

LLS accepted her donation at a recent HomeCity meeting that included CEO Keith Dunham.  During that meeting he emphasized the importance of volunteering and donating to Dallas-area organizations.

"We love to be a part of the community and give back as often as we can," says Dunham.  "The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society really hits home with us here at HomeCity, including my family. My father battled lymphoma for 5 years and has been in remission for 3. We appreciate the work that the LLS does for the community and are excited to support it!"

The North Texas Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is grateful for the support of HomeCity Real Estate and its generous agents.

Honored Hero Run 2013

Have you heard of the Honored Hero Run yet?  It was created by North Texas Board of Trustees member Don Armstrong and a group of dedicated Team In Training (TNT) alumni interested in doing more for LLS than fundraise and race with TNT.  The event, which started in Fort Worth in 2008, has grown into an incredible community event to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Earlier this year, a couple members of the Honored Hero Run committee presented Board of Trustees Chairman Steve Rigby with a check for $28,000.  To date, the Honored Hero Run has raised more than $60,000 for the North Texas Chapter.

If you would like to participate in this one of a kind event, please mark October 19, 2014 on your calendar.  Need help getting to the finish line?  TNT is sending a team so register today to reserve your spot today!  www.teamintraining.org/ntx

Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who make the Honored Hero Run such a success year after year!
