2014 is a special year for the North Texas Team In Training (TNT) campaign. It is celebrating 20 years of running, biking, and hiking to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and it's mission to find a cure for blood cancers. Saturday, Feburary 8th TNT will kick off a year of celebrating. To honor the thousands of North Texas TNT alumni and the millions of dollars they raised in that time, we are going to count down each year of the program leading up to the TNT Alumni "Celebrate You" event on Feburary 8th.
2008
Tim Parker is dedicated to the mission of LLS. It is the reason he keeps signing up for events, takes on leadership roles with the North Texas Chapter and consistently strives to be a Rock Star fundraiser.
What is your favorite memory of TNT?
A couple of them - first the coaches and leadership. What I have learned from them has been invaluable not only for my training but for life situations in general. And then, walking into the ballroom in DC where my daughter was participating in Nation's Triathlon for TNT and my picture popped up on the big screen; I knew I was her Honored Hero but that moment was incredibly impactful. Timing is everything.

What brought you to TNT originally?
Amber Tune was "pitching" in her "little purple tent" in front of RBM. I had just finished a hard ride and was sitting on the bench trying to recuperate and listened over and over as she told others until I finally approached her...it was all over after that.

What about TNT makes you keep coming back?
The mission has become my why; as I listen to Honored Hero stories and teammate stories each year, I am drawn closer to LLS. Also, broadening my involvement outside "riding a bike one time a year" has helped to enrich the experience. I enjoy meeting "teammates" from Tri, Marathon, Hike, etc.

What do you want to see in the next 20
years for TNT in North Texas?
A cure! Along with that, a strong and active alumni association.

What was the best part of the 2008 Solvang Century?
A bike accident on training day...doesn't sound like a "best part" story....however....the day before the Solvang Century, I was invited to go for an extra ride with some of the "big boys" and that was a thrill. On the way back we had a 3 bike crack up (literally). After they picked me up and put me in a passing pickup truck, we discovered the wreck had cracked the fork on my brand new Roubaix. Forget the fact that I was bloody and cut up...it is all about the bike! The best part is how the team rallied....first they took care of me with tub soaking, ice packs and bandages and then they set about finding me a bike so I could compete. And they did just that; so ride I did, bandaged, stiff and on a borrowed bike feeling wonderful about this organization I had gotten involved with called Team in Training!
